  Gallery Art Tiles welcomes you into a artist sanctuary it is a place of peace, serenity, happiness and passion a spare room in our home but to the artist who dreams and creates it is another world a place to be who you are. I have had a passion for drawing, painting and sculpting my entire life. About 10 years ago I started painting tile I didn't own a kiln at the time I started painting tile so I took my tiles to a local ceramics business and they fired my tiles for me I picked up my tiles when they were finished I couldn't help but  marvel at the way dull muddied under glaze colors come vibrantly to life in the firing process of a kiln it was a media element that became a challenge to me and it seemed like a whole other world of color had opened up for me I have been hooked ever since there are virtualy  no limitations to the size of creations they can be large or small my first tiles were installed into a range top back-splash of the home we owned at the time I was quite pleased when my tiles became a wow factor to potential buyers when deciding to sell the home in order to move to the country. I have developed my own style in this exciting and fascinating art media and I'm experienced and confident in both over glaze and under glaze tile painting methods. I am gravitating more toward the use of under glaze and glaze paint. With colors vibrant beautiful and durable most of them are completely non-toxic and because of that more versatile in  tile installation applications where there may be in contact with food or food preparation . Over glaze paint although beautiful and durable contains small amounts of lead and cannot be used in food contact so it has limitations in tile installation projects. Gallery Art Tiles will only use over glaze paint in murals upon  request. 

       Tile Mural Creation

 

  Tile murals start as a idea move to the sketch on paper phase if the mural is a custom a sketch must receive client approval before being applied to blank tiles where the painting process begins because most tile paints are opaque in nature this is a quite time consuming because objects and attributes in the painting often times have to be painted in layers three to four times to achieve the vibrancy hues and shadow content that is desired when the painting is complete clear glaze is applied if mural is a under glaze. Tiles are loaded into the kiln I use a kiln manufatured by Skutt with a kiln sitter which means I can set my kilns electronic computer brain to  fire the mural tiles to a tee. Under glaze glaze paint is fired to about 1800 degrees fahrenheit. Overglaze is fired to roughly 1600 degrees Fahrenheit in a nutshell this is the process. In summary I wish to express to you just how spacial each one of my tile painting are to me each one is a work of passion each one is nurtured and cared for and best of all each one I constantly push the edge of the envelope and raise the bar to make sure it is the best mural I have ever painted
